A teenager accused of killing his 19-year-old pregnant girlfriend has said that when it went off and shot her he was only "playing around" with a rifle.
Gage Gillentine, 18, has been arrested for murder after reportedly murdering Klowie Moore, 19, in Graham, Texas, on Friday, September 11.
Gillentine was staying at the Executive Hotel, located on 1919 Hwy, according to a news release from the Graham Police Department. 16. The two checked into the hotel on Aug. 16, a spokesperson of the Executive Inn said.
About 7:09 p.m. On Friday, Sept. 11, a shooting call was made by the police in room 106. Moore was taken to a nearby hospital by helicopter, where she died.
It was found following an initial report that Moore was living in the room with her supposed fiancee, Gillentine. When the incident happened, police and prosecutors learned Gillentine was in the hotel room. "No arrest was made at the time, but police said the incident was deemed" suspicious.
Gillentine was arrested and charged with murder on Thursday, September 17th. His bond is priced at dollars 500,000.
He could not keep his story straight with the police, telling them he was not in the room when the shooting happened, then saying he was in the bathroom, according to court documents.
In the same interview, police said he was trying to take the slide off the handgun and it "just went off."
Moore was sixteen weeks pregnant when Gillentine allegedly shot and killed her.
